These Florence hotel pools will keep you cool in summer
Estimated reading time: 21 minutes
If you’re seeking a hotel in Florence with a good swimming pool, I can relate. I visited in Italy in August and by the time I got to Florence all I wanted was to float in some cool, cool water. Because Florence in summer is punishingly hot, a hotel pool isn’t a luxury, it’s survival strategy. These hotels with pools in Florence will help save you in those heat waves and many offer incredible city views that will make your trip even more memorable.
This post focuses on hotels in the heart of Florence, walkable from major attractions. I’ve included the chic rooftop pools, pretty courtyard pools with gardens and indoor pools, some with excellent on-site spas. And you don’t need to break the bank unless you want to — there are choices for all budgets. Note that these outdoor pools are seasonal so if you’re coming in fall and winter, look for an indoor pool.
My advice for enjoying hotel pools applies especially in hot Florence in summer: rise up early for sightseeing, return to your hotel at midday for a swim and cool down, then head back out in the evening. Between check-out and check-in is prime pool time in my experience if you want it to yourself.
On to the list of the best hotels with pools in Florence.

Best Rooftop Pools in Florence

Florence has a famous skyline. Why not enjoy it from a lounge chair or cool pool? These rooftop spots offer exceptional views and many have trendy bars with entertainment at night.
Hotel Plaza Lucchesi
- Chic riverside hotel
- Excellent food and drinks
- Fantastic views of Duomo
One of the most enviable pool situations in Florence: a rooftop pool with direct views of the Duomo, sitting right on the banks of the Arno. The pool is small but deeper than most plunge pools. Hotel is steps from Piazza Santa Croce, the Uffizi, and Piazza della Signoria. Our room had a huge balcony — which we didn’t use because it was too hot. That’s what the pool is for!
Important to note, this hotel pool is for daytime. After 7:30pm the rooftop bar (Empireo) opens to non-hotel guests with reservations. We had a lovely evening watching the sun go down and listening to live music up here, and swimming during the days. Read my detailed hotel review here.
🕐 Pool hours: Daytime (pool for hotel guests only) | After 7:30pm: bar open to non-guests | Seasonal / summer only

Glance Hotel Florence
- Modern & design-forward
- Closest pool hotel to the statue of David
- Rooftop lounge in evening
Glance is a sleek, minimalist hotel for art lovers, housed in a 1950s building designed by architect Italo Gamberini. Each floor pays tribute to a different Florentine Renaissance sculpture (David, Neptune, the Rape of the Sabines). The heated rooftop pool measures 12 x 3 metres with sweeping Duomo views, sun loungers, and a pool bar that transitions to a lounge bar in the evening. Located one minute from the Central Market, six minutes from the Accademia — the closest pool hotel to the statue of David.
🕐 Pool hours: 10:00am–7:30pm | May 15–October 15 | Weather permitting

Grand Hotel Minerva
- Iconic Florence skyline views
- Pool open til midnight
- On Piazza Santa Maria Novella
The Grand Hotel Minerva’s rooftop pool might have the best view of any hotel pool in Florence — a 360-degree panorama from a 13th-century palazzo, with the Duomo front and centre at sunset. What sets it apart: the pool is open from April through October, longer than most, and stays open late. The pool bar serves cocktails and pizza from morning till midnight in season. Right on Piazza Santa Maria Novella, one minute from the basilica; the Duomo is an eight-minute walk.
Non-guests: The pool bar welcomes non-hotel visitors from 7:30pm for cocktails or pizza.
🕐 Pool hours: Hotel guests: May–September, 11:00am–midnight | Pool bar for non-guests: 7:30pm–midnight | Pool open April–October (hours vary by season)

Hotel Kraft
- Rooftop pool on the 5th floor
- Duomo & Arno views
- Heated in fall & winter
Hotel Kraft is one of the few hotels with pools in Florence that is heated year-round, a.k.a. usable beyond summer. The 5th-floor panoramic terrace looks out over Brunelleschi’s Dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Arno, and the green Florentine hills. There’s also a hot tub. Two minutes’ walk from the Arno, eight minutes from Piazza Santa Maria Novella.
🕐 Pool hours: 9:00am–8:30pm | Seasonal | Heated — available beyond peak summer

Courtyard & Garden Pools in Florence

Sometimes you just want to lounge beneath a tree.
Hotel Indigo Florence by IHG
- Near Santa Maria Novella train station
- Quirky design hotel
- Small courtyard pool
Hotel Indigo Florence by IHG is a budget-friendly choice near the Florence train station — 200 metres behind Santa Maria Novella, 100 metres from the light rail to the airport. The small outdoor pool is surrounded by grass in a courtyard with a giraffe sculpture in the middle (not a real one — a modern art quirk). The mix of Renaissance building and contemporary design extends throughout. Some reviewers point out that the pool gets direct sun mainly between 11am and 4pm. There are also indoor pool/spa options and occasional evening pool parties.
🕐 Pool hours: 10:00am–6:00pm | May 1–September 30
➡️ Check availability at Hotel Indigo Florence

Croce di Malta Hotel
- Courtyard garden
- Steps from Santa Maria Novella
- Breakfast included
One of the few hotels with pools in Florence surrounded by actual trees and shade — a genuine relief in in the summer. The outdoor pool sits in a courtyard garden setting, which is great if you’re avoiding exposed full-sun rooftops. One minute from Piazza Santa Maria Novella, eight minutes from the Duomo. Some rooms overlook the garden and pool. Buffet breakfast included daily.
🕐 Pool hours: 8:00am–8:00pm | June 1–September 30

Sina Villa Medici, Autograph Collection (Marriott)
- Kidney-shaped pool
- Surrounded by grass and trees
- Good use of Bonvoy points
This gorgeous kidney-shaped pool set in a grassy, tree-lined courtyard is one of the prettier pool settings in central Florence. Worth using Marriott Bonvoy points for if you have them. Turkish bath and sauna on site.

Four Seasons Hotel Firenze
- 5-star splurge
- Lush private garden pool
- Spa access for non-guests
Look, it’s the Four Seasons. You know this one will be the best of all hotels with pools in Florence.
Set within two Renaissance palaces with one of the largest private gardens in Florence — centuries-old trees, statues, fountains — the pool here feels more like a serene country villa than a city hotel. Private cabanas, plush loungers, complimentary sunscreen, and a curated selection of garden games (bocce, mini-golf, chess). The heated outdoor hot tub is available year-round even when the pool is closed. Honestly, if I stayed here, I would not leave the hotel.
Non-guests: Pool access is possible by booking a spa treatment of at least 50 minutes, combined with a pool access fee.
🕐 Pool hours: Pool and Hot Tub 10:00am–6:00pm | Spa: 9:00am–8:00pm | Sauna/steam: 7:00am–10:00pm | May–October (pool); hot tub year-round

The spa, Il Segreto della Villa, has a cherry-wood hot tub, biosauna, and steam room. What’s unusual and lovely: a maximum of 8 guests are allowed in the wellness area at once, so it never feels crowded. A complimentary shuttle connects to the city centre.

The outdoor pool is kept at a constant 33°C and appears to connect directly to the indoor spa, so you can move between them in the water.
